Stocks have fallen on Wall Street after a disappointing jobs report while technology stocks slippped after a broker downgraded the chip sector.
The Dow Jones Index was down 4 points at 10,940 on Wednesday.
The Nasdaq Composite was down 27 points to 2373.
In Europe: FTSE 100 in London rose 0.8%, the CAC-40 in Paris jumped 0.9%, and DAX in Frankfurt was up 0.9%.
The Nikkei index in Tokyo was up 173 points to 9691.
The Australian 200 Index was up 79 points to close at 4687.
The NZX50 rose 17 points to 3235 on turnover of $24 million.
At 6.25am on Thursday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 75.20 US cents, 77.07 Australian cents, 47.29 pence, 62.38 yen and 0.5398 euro. and the TWI stands at 67.07.
Brent crude oil was trading at $US85.02 per barrel and gold was trading at $US1346.46 cents per ounce.
