Employment growth in Australia has exceeded expectations, with the number of people employed in September increasing significantly.

Official figures show 49,500 new jobs were created in September, more than double what analysts predicted.

The Australian dollar jumped on the data, reaching a new two-year high against the US dollar.

The rise in employment was driven by an increase in full-time employment, leaving Australia's unemployment rate unchanged at 5.1% in September.
