Progressive Enterprises supermarket sales rise

9:44 am on 21 October 2010

Sales are up at supermarkets owned by Australian retailer Woolworths.

Progressive Enterprises, which operates Countdown, Woolworths and Foodtown stores, has reported sales up almost 5% in the 14 weeks to 3 October compared to the same period last year.

The strong rise is being attributed to the roll out of new format stores and better stock management.

But sales were down at the Woolworths-owned Dick Smith electronics chain, by more than 4% on a comparable store basis.
