Auckland International Airport Ltd says overseas and domestic passenger volumes grew last month compared to September 2009.
The company says the 5.8% increase in international passengers was a result of strong growth in Asian arrivals.
Chinese arrivals increased by 24.3% last month compared to September 2009, following an improved economic climate and an upturn in post-pandemic travel.
North American arrivals grew by 1%.
AIA says more competition on Trans-Tasman flights has led to a 2.4% increase in Australian arrivals.
And increases in domestic flights has led to an increase of 4.3% in domestic passenger volumes.
