Contact predicts stable first-half earnings

Contact Energy has reiterated its earnings will remain stable in the first half of the current financial year, but it's fallen short of giving an actual forecast of how much it expects to make.

The listed power company's annual profit fell last year because it still had to pay for gas it didn't use at its gas-fired power stations.

Contact has lost 8,500 electricity customers in the year to September, and it shed 2,500 gas customers.
