Deficit cut would help curb dollar - Brash

4:49 pm on 15 November 2010

Former Reserve Bank Governor Don Brash says cutting the size of the Government's budget deficit could help control the rise of the dollar.

Leaders of the 21 APEC nations, who met in Japan at the weekend, say they will not deliberately devalue their currencies and will try to keep exchange rates stable.

Dr Brash says reducing the Governments budget deficit would enable the Reserve Bank to cut interest rates which could help control the rising dollar.
