Wind farm consents granted

7:23 am on 2 December 2010

The Environment Court has granted Contact Energy consents to proceed with a proposed wind farm in southern Hawke's Bay.

The $400 million development at Waitahora will generate enough electricity to power 70,000 houses.

Contact Energy says the relatively remote site is ideal for a wind farm and it plans to put 58 wind turbines there.

Shares in Contact rose 5 cents to $5.98 on Wednesday.
