Labour force numbers rise in Australia

6:05 am on 10 December 2010

Latest labour force numbers in Australia were well above expectations.

Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows 54,600 jobs were created in November, compared to predictions that only 19,000 jobs would be created.

However, the unemployment rate remained steady, in line with forecasts, at 5.2%, a fall from the previous month's reading of 5.4%.

The data caused the Australian dollar to gain a cent against the US collar.

The New Zealand dollar cross rate fell 0.5 cents following the news.
