Electrolux to cut jobs

Electrolux is to cut costs by shedding 2100 jobs in Europe and Canada in the next three years.

The Swedish household appliance maker is to close a plant with 1300 employees in l'Assomption, Quebec, Canada, at the end of 2013.

Production will be transferred to another facility in 2012.

Another 800 employees in Europe will be laid off through 2011 and 2012.

The redundancies will cost about 950 million kronor ($US140 million).

The BBC reports Electrolux has closed many sites recently, in China, France, Italy, Spain, the United States and Russia.
