The co-founder of Google, Larry Page, is to become chief executive of the US internet search giant in April.

The 37-year-old is reclaiming the job he relinquished when investors called for a more experienced business leader 10 years ago, the BBC reports.

He will take over from Eric Schmidt, who has been in the job since that time, and will become executive chairman.

Separately, Google has unveiled strong net profits in the last three months of $US2.54 billion on revenues of $US8.44 billion.
