NZ and Australian markets down

The New Zealand stock market was down on Friday morning.

At 12:06 pm, the NZX 50 index was down 2 points, or 0.1%, to 3348 on turnover of $22 million.

Fletcher Building was in a trading halt, pending an announcement about its takeover offer for the Australian building products firm, Crane Group.

Telecom was unchanged at $2.31 and Contact Energy was up 1 cent to $6.20.

Hallenstein Glasson was down 3c to $3.86 after the company warned earlier this week that its half year profit will fall by up to 18%, compared with the same period last year, due to lower sales.

Pumpkin Patch was unchanged at $1.45, after issuing a profit warning on Thursday. Restaurant Brands was down 1c at $2.48 and Sky Television was down 2c at $5.28.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 index was down 3 points to 4802

The New Zealand dollar was trading at 77.15 US cents, 77.90 Australian cents, 48.40 pence, 63.90 yen and 0.5620 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 68.82.
