Deutsche Telekom has sold T-Mobile USA to its rival AT&T for $US39 billion, creating the largest US wireless network.

AT&T has been looking to increase its network capacity to handle the rapidly increasing consumer demand for videos and data, but many analysts expected it to team up with smaller players.

If the mega-deal is approved by regulators, AT&T will have about 43% of the US mobile market, the BBC reports.
