Employment confidence up slightly - survey

Employment confidence has edged up slightly. The latest Westpac McDermott Miller employment confidence index for the three months to March rose 1.5 points to 105.

A reading above 100 indicates there are more optimists than pessimists and the index has risen for two-consecutive quarters.

Westpac senior economist Dominick Stephens says the improvement was driven by people becoming less downbeat about earnings and current job opportunities.
