Sharemarket finishes higher

The New Zealand sharemarket finished higher on Monday, with the benchmark NZX 50 index rising 19 points to close at 3408 on turnover of $85 million.

Fletcher Building was up 21 cents to $9.24, Telecom was up 2c to $1.99, Contact Energy was up 3c to $5.79.

Hallenstein Glasson was unchanged at $3.80, The Warehouse was up 1c to $3.44, Kathmandu was up 1c to $2.23, Sky City Entertainment was down 1c to $3.33, Sky TV was down 2c to $5.51 and Goodman was up 2c to $1.65.

Manfreight was down 1c to $8.74, Methven was down 3c to $1.52

and Tenon was unchanged at $1.12 after saying its underlying earnings for the second half of the year would be flat because of subdued retail spending.

Allied Farmers was unchanged at 1.2c after appointing Chris Beh as general manager of subsidiary Allied Farmers Rural.

Across the Tasman, the ASX 200 index was down 17 points to 4725.

The dollar was trading at 75.11 US cents, 73.16 Australian, 46.87 pence, 61.37 yen and 0.5339 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was 65.90.
