Stocks rose on Wall Street on Friday after employment in the United States grew for the scond month in a row. Unemployment hit a two-year low of 8.8%.
The Dow Jones Index rose 57 points to 12,377.
The Nasdaq Composite was up 9 points to 2790
In Europe, the FTSE in London rose 1.7, the DAX in Frankfurt was up 2% and the CAC-40 in Paris was up 1.6%.
In Toyko, the Nikkei fell 47 points to 9708.
The Australian 200 Index rose 24 points to 4861 and the NZX50 rose 12 points to close at 3452.
The New Zealand dollar on Monday was trading at 76.76 US cents, 73.87 Australian cents, 47.58 pence, 64.49 yen and 0.5385 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 67.16.
Brent crude oil was trading at $US119.25 per barrel and gold was trading at $US1428.35 US per ounce.
