Investment protocol talks to be held by NZ and Hong Kong

3:05 pm on 19 April 2011

New Zealand will start in-depth talks with Hong Kong about a comprehensive investment protocol early in May.

A trade agreement was signed last year which also included setting up a framework to promote investment flows between New Zealand and Hong Kong.

Trade Minister Tim Groser says Hong Kong is a global investment hub and gateway into China and Hong Kong provides significant investment opportunities for New Zealand investors.

In 2009, New Zealand investments to Hong Kong were more than $1.2 billion - 2.5 times that of 2005.

Hong Kong is New Zealand's eighth largest investment destination and the sixth largest source for inward investment into New Zealand.
