Little change in offshore markets

Stocks in the United States are little changed on Monday as investors digest gains from a slew of recent strong earnings reports. Wall Street is set for a choppy, low volume day with major European markets closed.

The Dow Jones Index is down 20 points, or 0.1%, to 12,485. The Nasdaq Composite is up 4 points, or 0.1%, to 2824.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 Index closed on Thursday up 54 points, or 1.1%, to 4913.

The NZX 50 closed on Thursday up 19 points, or 0.5% , to 3492.

The New Zealand dollar has been over 80 US cents at times over the weekend. On Tuesday morning, it dipped to trade at 79.96 US cents, 74.61 Australian cents, 48.46 pence, 65.46 yen and 0.5483 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 68.69.

Brent crude oil was trading at $US124.51 per barrel.

Gold was trading at a new record high of $US1501.25 per ounce.
