Virgin Blue rebranded

8:58 am on 5 May 2011

Virgin Blue is now known as Virgin Australia, after the airline rebranded its Australian business.

V-Australia and Pacific Blue will also come under the new banner.

The low-cost airline was restricted to domestic flights in Australia, because of Singapore Airline's stake in Virgin Atlantic, which came with international naming rights.

The ABC reports the airline is attempting to turn around its fortunes after foreshadowing a full-year loss of between $A30- $A80 million in an update to the share market in March this year.

However, the re-branding did not impress investors on Wednesday. Virgin Blue Holdings shares were down 0.5 cents at 28 cents at 12.33pm (AEST).
