Up to 200 jobs could be lost at Fairfax's Australian papers

Fairfax will meet with staff over the next few days to negotiate a proposal to outsource sub-editing at its Australian newspapers.

The move which would affect papers such as The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Canberra Times could see up to 200 people lose their jobs.

The company is expected to announce its decision towards the end of next week.

Its flagship papers The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age are bleeding readers and its online strategy has been criticised as incoherent.
