Contact Energy lost 2500 electricity customers in April.
The listed power company's operating statistics show it had some 457,500 customers at the end of April, slightly less than in March and 19,000 fewer than a year earlier.
Its gas customer numbers held steady during the month, as did LPG customer numbers.
Total generation slipped from 832 to 765 gigawatt hours in the month.
