NZ dollar falls

8:35 pm on 13 June 2011

The New Zealand dollar has fallen further due to more significant earthquakes in Christchurch on Monday.

The kiwi intitially fell three-quarters of a cent to a low US81.4 cents and has edged down to US81.3 cents on Monday afternoon.

ANZ Bank head of market economics and strategy, Khooh Goh, says global investors sold the New Zealand currency, knowing the effect of the last earthquake in Christchurch.

"I think it's one of those cases where you just sell first and ask questions later," he said.
