Consumer confidence down slightly

Consumer confidence is down slightly, but remains in optimistic territory.

The ANZ-Roy Morgan Consumer confidence index stood at 109.4 in July, down 3.1 points from the previous month. A reading above 100 shows optimism.

But ANZ economists are not too perturbed by the fall, saying fewer people are feeling worse off financially compared to last year.

But they say any big pick up in consumer spending remains some way off.
