Maersk to end services to Port Taranaki

1:59 pm on 22 July 2011

The Maersk Line shipping company is to pull out of Port Taranaki at the end of July.

Trade and marketing manager Dave Gulik says projected cargo volumes are not sufficient for the company to maintain a viable service into New Plymouth.

Mr Gulik says Maersk Line is working on alternative arrangements for its Taranaki-based customers.

Port Taranaki chairman John Auld says the news is not a surprise.

Fonterra cut its exports through the port by almost 80% in August 2009.
