Offshore markets down

Wall St was flat on Wednesday as weak results from Dell raised concerns about the state of growth.

The Dow Jones Index was up 4 points to close at 11,410. The Nasdaq Composite fell 12 points, or 0.5%, to 2511.

Earlier, the FTSE 100 in London was down 0.5%, DAX in Frankfurt fell 0.8% and the CAC-40 in Paris slid 0.7%

The Nikkei in Japan was down 50 points to 9057.

The Australian 200 Index rose 57 points, or 1.3%, to 4304.

The NZX 50 rose 16 points to 3290.

At 8.25am on Thursday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 83.75 US cents, 79.39 Australian cents, 50.61 pence, 64.05 yen and 0.5800 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 71.62.

Brent crude oil was trading at $US112.17 per barrel and gold was trading at $US1791.90 per ounce.
