Household borrowing up slightly

Household borrowing grew fractionally in July as a lift in housing credit offset softer consumer borrowings.

Reserve Bank figures show seasonally adjusted total household borrowing rose 0.2% to $184.3 billion in July, after a 0.1% rise in June.

The annual rate of increase in total borrowing was steady for a fifth consecutive month at 1.2%.

Housing-related borrowing grew 1.3% from a year ago, while consumer borrowing eased 1%.
