Tourism Holdings (THL) has won a contract to build ambulances for St John for the next five years.

Subsidiary CI Munro is expected to produce more than 50 vehicles in the first year alone, at an estimated value of $6.8 million.

The first ambulances will go into service this month.

Tourism Holdings lost $27.3 million in the year to June, mainly due to writing off goodwill.

The company, which owns rental motorhome firms in Australasia and the United States, forecast a profit of $5.9 million in this financial year.

Shares in THL have risen 3c to 64c on Friday.
