New Zealand and Australian stock markets down

The New Zealand and Australian stock markets fell on Tuesday.

The benchmark NZX50 index fell 23 points, or 0.7% on Tuesday to close at 3271 on turnover of $72 million.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 index is down 63 points, or 1.5%, at 4079.

The NZ dollar's buying US82.8 cents, 78.84 Australian cents, 51.52 pence, 63.63 yen, 0.5897 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was TWI at 71.63.

Fletcher Building remained unchanged at $7.58 and Contact Energy was down 10 cents at $5.22.

Telecom was up 4 cents at $2.44.

Sky City Entertainment was unchanged at $3.48, Sky Network Television was down 7 cents to $5.79, Auckland International Airport was down 7 cents at $2.22 and Air New Zealand remained unchanged at $1.11.

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was down 5 cents at $2.15 cents, The Warehouse was down 2 cents at $3.41 and Kathmandu was down 3 cents to $2.01.

NZ Refining was up 5 cents to $3.40 and NZ Oil & Gas was unchanged at 68 cents.
