Employment confidence down slightly

1:50 pm on 23 September 2011

Employment confidence has fallen slightly as households become less optimistic about their prospects in the year ahead.

The Westpac McDermott Miller Employment Confidence Index fell 1.8 points to 104.2 in the September quarter.

A result above 100 indicates there are more optimists than pessimists.

Westpac senior economist Felix Delbruck says it is possible international turmoil has dented confidence, but sentiment is still better than it was last year.
