Fletcher executive to head Meridian

Meridian Energy has appointed a Fletcher Building executive as its new chief executive.

Mark Binns will replace Tim Lusk at the State-owned electricity generator and retailer.

Mr Binns runs Fletcher Building's Infrastructure division. He will leave in December after 22 years with the building products and construction company.

The Government plans to sell a minority stake in Meridian if it's re-elected in November.

Mr Binn is no stranger to the electricity sector. He headed Fletcher's involvement in the construction of Meridian's second tailrace tunnel in the late 1990s.

Former Meridian chief executive Keith Turner says Mr Binns is a good choice to lead the company.
