Figures from the Transport Agency show a growth in new vehicle sales.
Sales for the year ending in September were up 7% on the previous year.
Motor Trade Association spokesperson Ian Stronach says the supply of vehicles from Japan, which was affected by the March earthquake and tsunami, is improving.
He says consumers can expect to see a competive market over the next few months as manufacturers seek to consolidate the gains they have made this year.
