McDonald's to close outlets in Iceland

McDonald's plans to close its operations in Iceland because a financial crisis there makes it too expensive to operate the franchise.

The giant fast food company says it will shut its three outlets in ICeland and has no plans to return.

Besides the economy, McDonald's blames the "unique operational complexity" of doing business in an isolated island with a population of 300,000.

The franchisee says while the restaurants have never been as busy, profits have never been lower.

It says the costs of importing goods from Germany have almost doubled because the falling krona.
