Wellington Drive Technologies has appointed an expatriate New Zealander as its new chief executive.

Greg Allen will take up the reigns at the energy-efficient motor maker in November, replacing Ross Green who is stepping aside but will remain in an advisory role.

Mr Allen is currently a vice president and general manager for Celestica Corporation - a $US6.5 billion manufacturing and supply chain servicing company.

Wellington Drive chairman Tony Nowell says Mr Allen has the right mix of commercial, technology and supply chain skills to lead the company to profitability and into its next phase of growth.

Mr Nowell says Mr Allen will be based in the United States, to be closer to the company's customers in America and Europe.

Wellington Drive was established 25 years ago but is yet to make a profit.
