New Zealand market up in Thursday trading

The NZX50 index ended Thursday up 6 points or 0.2% at 3303.

Turnover was $45 million.

Telecom was down 2 cents to $2.51, Fletcher Building was up 16 cents to $6.61 and Contact lost 2 cents to end the day at $5.66.

Sky City Entertainment was down 5 cents at $3.43, Sky TV was down 6 cents at $5.50 and NZO gained 5 cents to 70 cents.

Goodman Fielder was unchanged at 68 cents.

Freightways was up 11 cents to $3.42 after reporting its highest first quarter profit since listing in 2003.

Vector gained 2 cents to $2.55. The Maui gas pipeline, which it manages, has been closed due to a leak, affecting supplies to energy generators and large users.

In the currency markets, at 5.20pm the New Zealand dollar was buying 80.50 US cents, 76.75 Australian, 50.26 pence, 61.27 yen and 0.5761 euro.

The TWI stands at 69.71.
