Khosla jets in looking for NZ investments

8:12 am on 9 November 2011

Billionaire venture capitalist Vinod Khosla will go cherry-picking for New Zealand companies to invest in when he visits the country on Friday.

The Indian born co-founder of Sun Microsystems is flying in on his private jet this week and will meet with the founders of 10 companies he's interested in.

Mr Khosla has already invested in New Zealand companies, the most high-profile being a 51% stake in Lanzatech - a clean energy business which recently signed a deal to produce its biofuel for Virgin Atlantic.

The non-profit investment network Kea New Zealand has helped facilitate Mr Khosla's meeting with local companies.

Chairman Sir Stephen Tindall says the billionaire's investment in Lanzatech has fueled his interest in New Zealand companies.

Lanzatech signs Mumbai customer

Mr Khosla's investment in Lanzatech is paying off, as the company secures more business around the world.

The clean energy company has just signed its first commercial customer, Mumbai-based Corcord Enviro Systems.

The deal allows Corcord to use Lanzatech's technology to produce power and fuels.
