Online job website Seek says more than 250,000 jobs were listed in the year to the end of November, 10% up on the same period in 2010.
Canterbury recorded the strongest overall new job growth on the site at 49% - an increase of almost 900 advertised positions on a year earlier.
Wellington followed with a 12% increase while Auckland, at 2%, experienced only a slight growth in job vacancies posted on SEEK.
The sector with the biggest growth in job ads was accountancy, followed by information and communication technology, then trades and services.
SEEK reports that the best month to secure a new position was in August 2011, when new job ads on the website reached the high for the year.
