Christchurch keeps AA credit rating

Christchurch City Council has kept its AA financial rating with the international credit-rating agency Standard & Poor's.

The council says this keeps it among the highest-rated councils in New Zealand, including Auckland Council and Wellington City and Regional councils.

Standard & Poor's says Christchurch remains on a negative outlook because of the lack of insurance for its assets, and also because of a negative global outlook and uncertainty about the post-earthquake rebuild.

The council's corporate services general manager, Paul Anderson, says this is a good result given the events of the past year.

He says it is directly due to the council's strong financial management and strong government support.
