Big downturn foreseen before world trade talks resume

Trade Minister Tim Groser says it could take a significant global economic downturn before stalled world trade talks get back on track.

Mr Groser last week attended a meeting of trade ministers at the World Trade Organisation in Geneva.

WTO members agreed to fully explore different negotiating approaches to overcome the stalemate in the Doha round of trade talks.

But Mr Groser says that's not likely while big international players, including the United States, China and the European Union, are not talking about trying to find a way to end the round.
