Joint bid by Sydney and Canberra for G20 summit

The governments of New South Wales and the ACT are to make a joint bid to host a summit meeting of G20 countries in 2014.

The Australian Capital Territory is keen to host the gathering, but the ABC says a new study shows Canberra lacks the capacity to host major international events.

In light of those findings, ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says she has come to an agreement with the New South Wales Government to form a joint bid.

If the bid is successful, Canberra would host events leading up to the summit and Sydney would host the main summit meetings.
