Toyota to cut jobs in Australia

Toyota is to cut 350 jobs in Australia in a round of compulsory redundancies due to high manufacturing costs, a decline in exports and the strong Australian dollar.

The ABC reports most positions to go in April are at the company's plant at Altona in Melbourne.

Toyota Australia president Max Yasuda blamed the cuts on severe operating conditions including a decline in export markets, saying there had been a drop of 36% in four years.

The company was Australia's top car seller in 2011.
