Investors appear to be taking a breather on Wall St.
The Dow Jones index was down 41 points to 12,680 on Monday. The Nasdaq Composite was down 10 points at 2777.
In Europe: the FTSE 100 in London rose 0.8%, the DAX in Frankfurt was up 0.4% and the CAC-40 in Paris was up 0.4%.
The Nikkei in Tokyo was unchanged at 8766.
Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 Index fell 15 points to 4225. The NZX 50 rose 19 points to close at 3295.
At 8.15am on Tuesday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 80.52 US cents, 76.98 Australian cents, 51.73 pence, 61.95 yen and 0.6246 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 71.53.
Brent crude oil was trading at $US109.93 per barrel and gold was trading at $US1676.90 per ounce.
