International passenger volumes at Auckland airport rose by 5.9% compared in December compared with the same month a year earlier.
The airport company says the increase was driven by a 20% jump in Asian routes and nearly 6% rise from Australia.
It says 23 December was the busiest single day of 2011 and was the second busiest day ever at the international terminal with nearly 30,000 arriving or departing international passengers processed.
Domestic passenger volumes for the same period rose 6.5%, driven by passenger growth on both Air New Zealand and Jetstar.
The number of passengers from China grew 29% in December, after daily services started.
