The NZX50 closed down 36 points to 3294 on turnover of $122 million on Wednesday.

In the currency markets at 5.43pm, the kiwi was trading at 83.82 US cents, 78.10 Australian, 53.33 pence, 65.85 yen and 0.6367 euro.

The Trade Weighted Index was at 73.84.

Fletcher Building was down 17 cents to $6.54, Telecom was down 3.5 cents to $2.14, Chorus was up 1 cent at $3.29 and Contact was unchanged at $4.80.

Sky City Entertainment was down 5 cents to $3.59 and Sky Television was down 5 cents to $5.00.

Tower was down 4 cents to $1.45.

Cavalier was down 40 cents to $1.90.
