Auckland - Sunshine Coast direct flights announced

5:13 am on 24 February 2012

Air New Zealand is launching its first international service to the Sunshine Coast, as part of a trans-Tasman alliance with Virgin Australia.

A direct service between Auckland and the Sunshine Coast will operate with an A320 aircraft on Tuesdays and Sundays between July and September.

Air New Zealand says almost 100,000 New Zealand leisure travellers currently arrive in Brisbane and drive north to the resorts of Noosa, Coolum, Mooloolaba and Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast each year.

A direct flight could cut up two hours off their travel time.
