Water restrictions in Christchurch downgraded

Water restrictions have been downgraded in Christchurch as the city gets on top of repairs to earthquake-damaged wells, pipes and reservoirs.

Gardeners still may not use sprinklers and irrigation systems, but hoses and watering cans may be used any day of the week.

The new rules come into force from Saturday.

Christchurch City Council hopes to lift the restrictions completely by April.
