Sections of another shopping mall in Christchurch have to be shut down immediately because of earthquake damage.

Fourteen shops in the Northlands Mall in Papanui have to be earthquake-strengthened to comply with new building codes.

The mall's owner, Kiwi Income Property Trust, says it is acting on information from engineering evaluations.

Tenants were being notified of the closures Thursday evening.
