While Statistics New Zealand figures aren't available until next month to confirm the reports, caterers, celebrants and venues say that since last year's earthquakes, more and more couples are taking the plunge.

Kerri Matthews and her fiance Steve have decided that after 15 years together, it's now time.

She says until last year, getting married wasn't really a priority for the pair.

"We probably were never going to get married, we really weren't, and it was just like everyone else says, it was all about the earthquakes. You can't say if you don't live here what it does to you," she said.

Marriage celebrant Jenni Gibson says many couples have found their priorities have changed after surviving the Christchurch earthquakes and are taking the opportunity to do something now.

Ms Gibson says she has been flat out over summer.
