Mayor Bob Parker is to travel to South Korea to promote investment in the rebuilding of central Christchurch.
Mr Parker will leave on Thursday. He will speak at a business breakfast in the capital Seoul and visit Christchurch's sister city Songpa-Gu.
The mayor will also be a guest speaker at the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Conference in Seoul.
He will then travel to Israel for an international mayors' conference.
