Parklands decisions prove controversial

Government decisions hat parts of the Christchurch suburb of Parklands are fit for continued use has left one resident ready to walk away from her property.

Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee announced on Friday that 600 properties in Southshore and the Port Hills can continue to be lived on, and that 530 properties in Parklands will remain green despite a reassessment.

Government officials reviewed the "green zoning" of east Parklands after the area suffered more damage in the December 23rd earthquake.

Mr Brownlee says the area is only at as much risk of liquefaction as many other parts of Christchurch and New Zealand, and will remain green.

But a Parklands resident Suzanne Irvine says she will abandon her property, as her house has to be rebuilt and she no longer trusts the land.
