Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee is urging insurance companies to speed up the settlement of quake-related claims in Christchurch.
Many residents are battling insurance companies over whether they will be paid out for a rebuild or only for repairs to their homes even if they are on red zone land where rebuilding cannot take place.
In other cases, some companies are still to give the go-ahead for rebuilding following the 23 December earthquake.
Mr Brownlee says he has met Insurance Council representatives and the board of EQC, and the issue of who covers what has been sorted out.
He says this means claims can be settled more quickly.
Mr Brownlee says homeowners won't want to pay rising insurance premiums if they don't see claims being honoured in Christchurch.
