New quake damage at hospital

8:30 pm on 11 June 2012

Newly-discovered earthquake damage at Christchurch Hospital is forcing surgeries to be postponed while the damage is fixed.

Canterbury DHB chief medical officer Nigel Millar says a faulty switch controlling the hospital's back-up power supply was identified during a routine maintenance check on Monday morning.

It is thought the switchboard has suffered quake damage.

Dr Millar says essential power will be off while the fault is fixed on Tuesday morning and about 10 elective surgeries have been postponed.
